Introduction to Comparative Rhetorical Analysis Paper

Childhood obesity rates are still rising in the United States of America.   This is the issue that will be discussed in this paper using three different sources of media.   This issue is very relevant because it affects society and it is considered a very serious health problem.   Thirty five percent of Americans today have obesity.   Obesity is defined as a condition characterized by the excessive accumulation and storage of fat in the body.   There are different sources of media that portray the same message: that childhood obesity does not seem to be slowing down.   Looking at multiple sources is important because it gives you multiple viewpoints about the issue.   The first source that supports the same claim is a newsletter from Medical News Today titled “Childhood Obesity is Still Rising.”   The author of this article is Tim Newman and he supports his claim by using factual evidence such as statistics and data that was collected from ...

Consider Your Sources

Source 1 Section 1: Park, Alice. “Childhood Obesity Rates Are Still Rising .” Time , 26 Apr. 2016. Section 2:             This article was written by Alice Park with the purpose of stating the fact that childhood obesity rates are still rising.   The author supports her claim by factual evidence.   She uses Asheley Skinner who is an associate professor medicine at Duke University.   Asheley and her colleagues found that obesity is continuing to climb based on national surveys that they analyzed over the past 15 years.   Alice Park states in her article, “In the latest survey, conducted from 2013 to 2014, 33% of children were overweight, and 26% were considered obese.”   Another fact that was used as evidence was “The prevalence of overweight and obesity increased steadily year by year from 1994 to 2014.   For overweight, it went up from 28.8% in 1999 to 33.4% and for the least severe typ...

Considering your topic and issue

1.)     My subject is obesity. It is a major issue because it affects our society and it has copious amounts of risks associated with it. I will go into more detail about the risks in my paper and how the risks are discussed across different forms of media.   The forms of media that I will be focusing on are scientific journals, documentaries, and articles. 2.)     I have chosen this subject because I find it to be very relevant and concerning at the same time.   I have always seen it as a major issue and I have watched documentaries on Netflix about food industries and obesity.   I am majoring in health, nutrition, food, and exercise so I am very interested in the subject obesity, and the health risks that are associated with it.   There are many factors that play into obesity that I am also interested in.   I think it is very fitting for this assignment because we all had to choose a current issue that is discussed acros...

Japanese Do Not Fear Robots

The purpose of the article was to inform us as to why westerners fear robots compared to Japanese people that do not.   Japanese people have no fear of robots whatsoever and actually find excitement from the idea to utilize robots.   There are different factors like religion and history that come into play to help explain why there is such a big difference in the way that westerners and Japanese view robots.                The author points out the idea that westerners “concept of humanity is limited” and challenges the audience to question themselves whether we humans have the right to exploit robots just because we are human and robots are not. The voice the author portrays in this specific example is a sense of frustration by the way he words it in the article saying, “I think it’s time to seriously question…” ...

Harrasment of Women on the Internet

This article was very interesting and disturbing to read at the same time.   It was not pleasant to read the baffling statistics and personal experiences of Amanda Hess being harassed online, especially being a woman myself.   One statistic that really stuck out to me was “of 3,787 people who reported being harassed from the year 2000 to 2012, 72.5 percent were female.”   That is a significantly large number and it should not be that high in my opinion.   You have to ask yourself, why is the number so much higher for women compared to men? What really surprises me is that when multiple attempts were made to report incidents to the police, almost all of them dismissed the cases and considered them just another online ruse.   What is even worse is when attempts were made to bring the cases to larger law enforcement agencies and those agencies having little to no drive to investigate the threats further.   I can only imagine how frustrating that must b...
